How to Pitch a Perfect Game

Pitching a perfect game is the most difficult feat to accomplish in baseball. In the history of Major League Baseball, there have only been 17 perfect games thrown. What makes it so difficult is that not only does the pitcher have to pitch a perfect game but the pitcher also needs perfection from the defense.

To pitch a prefect game you have to, in a 9-inning game, face the minimum 27 batters. 27 players for the opposing team must be retired in a row. If any batter reaches base for any reason, the perfect game is ruined. Little league games and softball games are 6 or 7 innings and you must retire every hitter you face in a full regulation game to pitch a perfecto.

Perfect means perfect. You must keep each hitter from hitting safely to pitch a perfect game. You cannot walk any batters or hit any batters with a pitch.

Receive perfect support. If the defense makes an error behind you, or you make an error, and a hitter becomes a baserunner, the perfect game is ruined. The final line score should read: 0 runs, 0 hits and 0 errors.

Go the distance. Any game that is cut short by weather, even though you are throwing a perfect game, does not count as a perfect game. You must retire all 27 batters in a 9-inning game or every batter you face in a full, regulation game.
