How to Run a Pass Pick Away Offense in Basketball

1
Start out with the power forward and center on the baseline at the outside of the lane, the small forward and shooting guard on the wings at the free throw line extended and the point guard several feet above the three point circle. In the pass pick away, the three perimeter players are interchangeable and the two post players are interchangeable. They will all rotate among the same positions over and over while the offense is run.

2
Trigger the pass pick away offense by having the two wing players make a three directional cut to get open. They should begin by driving their defender towards the basket, when they get to the lane run up the side of the lane and then dart out quickly from the free throw line back to their original position on the wing.
-
3
Enter the ball to the wing. The point guard should pass the ball to one of the wing players as they complete their cut.

4
Set picks away from the side of the floor the ball is on. This is why the offense is called pass pick away. Once the pass is entered the player that passed the ball will go set a pick for the wing player that did not receive the entry pass and the post player who is on the ball side must go set a pick for the other post player so he can flash to the ball.
-
5
Look for the post player coming off the pick. The best option for this offense is to pass the ball in to the post player who is cutting through the lane. If he is not open the wing player will pass the ball back to the top of the circle where the other wing player is flashing after receiving the pick from the point guard.
-
6
Run it again. Now the wing player who did not receive the entry pass is at the top of the circle where the point guard was in step one. This player will now throw an entry pass to one of the players on the wing and then the player who made the pass and the post player on the ball side will pick away again.
