Whistle
-
Every basketball coach needs a whistle to blow in order to get his team organized. The whistle is used to signify the start of practice as well as the end of practice. A good basketball coach will use his whistle to stop the action in order to correct mistakes or to signify the end of a drill. The whistle is one of the fundamental tools that a basketball coach needs in order to properly teach his team the game.
Dry Erase Board
-
A dry erase board is a coaching tool that every basketball coach uses in order to diagram plays with his team. Diagramming a play on a dry erase board will allow the team to see the action as a whole instead of just what they are supposed to be doing. Most basketball coaches have a large dry erase board hanging in the locker room and some bring a handheld version to practice. Every basketball coach, however, will have a dry erase board handy at all games. The board is used to set up offensive and defensive plays as well as to diagram end-of-the-game situations during a timeout.
Cones
-
Cones are a handy tool that basketball coaches use while teaching in practice. By setting cones on the floor you can tell a player where to dribble, where he should be standing, or where the defense will be. In addition, coaches often use cones to represent different places on the floor where a drill should take place. Putting cones on the floor can also be useful in conditioning drills. Since you can move the cones around you can adjust how far the team will have to run between two cones.
