Learning to shoot is an important part of becoming a good girls basketball player. Shooting is a large part of the women's game today, so anyone who can excel in this area will have a foot up on the competition. Shooting drills for girls basketball focus on the proper repetition and form necessary to become a good shooter.
  1. In Close Jumpers

    • This shooting drill can be done by yourself and will simulate shots that girls get during game action. Start with a ball in hand and stand on the right block. Shoot the ball, rebound it, and with the ball quickly move to the left block. From the left block, shoot the ball and then rebound it. Now move back to the right side one step above the right block. Shoot the ball, rebound it and move to the same spot on the other side. Keep rotating from side to side and move one step back on each shot until you reach the foul line area. This drill will help you get warmed up and will let you get a lot of game shots up. Repeat three times.

    Mid-range Shooting

    • Designate 5-spots around the court in the mid-range area as shooting spots. The mid-range area is approximately 15-feet from the hoop and the five most popular spots are the corners, the wings, and the foul line. Starting in a corner, shoot 10 consecutive shots and then rotate. Rotate to the closest wing, to the foul line area, the opposite wing, and the opposite corner. Keep track of how many you make out of 10 from each spot. Go around and back for a total of 100 shots. Record how many total you made and try to beat that number tomorrow.

    Three-pointers

    • The girls three-point line is 19 feet, 9 inches from the basket. This is the closest three-point line in competitive play. Use the corners, wings, and top of the key as your five shooting spots and shoot 20 shots from each and then rotate. Go around and back for a total of 200 three-pointers shot. Record how many you make out of 200 and try to beat it the next day. When shooting three's, remember that great shooters make around 40% of them so just focus on your shooting technique and making as many as possible.
