How to Obtain USSF B Level Certification

The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has been certifying soccer coaches at all levels the early 1970s. The USSF offers five levels of coaching certification, ranging from the State E (basic level) to the National D through A (level 3). The National B-level course is a grueling nine-day course that consists of field and classroom instruction, a field exam, and written and oral exams. The B level course is designed for coaches that coach "elite level" players who are 16 years old up to the collegiate level, and it focuses on functional training, which is the specific technical, tactical, physical and psychological demands on players.

      Email the U.S. coaching department at coaches@ussoccer.org, or call 312-528-1219 for a National B application.

      Review the C level course materials and become familiar with the techniques and concepts in the U.S. Soccer's "Best Practices for Coaching" manual before attending the course. Read the FIFA "Laws of the Game" booklet and complete the corresponding exam.

      Take thorough notes in class, and do the homework. Initiate discussions with instructors and fellow campers about the course, techniques, practices, etc.

      Be as specific and concise as possible when answering the oral exam questions to maximize you point value. The oral exam consists of one tactical question and one methodological question. You must pass both questions in order to pass the course.
