List of Soccer Moves

Mastering soccer moves can be difficult, but it can lead to greater success on the field. Players usually perform moves while they are dribbling the ball. Using a move at the right time can create space for a pass or shot, or allow you to avoid a tackle. Many moves require close control and excellent timing.
  1. The Cruyff Turn

    • The Cruyff turn takes its name from Johan Cruyff, a Dutch player of the 1970s. Cruyff mastered the move as a way of evading an opposing defender. To perform the turn, position your body as if you were going to pass the ball to another player. Instead of kicking the ball, drag it backward behind your standing foot with the instep of your kicking foot. Complete the turn by accelerating away from the defender.

    The Drag Back

    • The drag back is a great way to move away from a tight situation. As you move in one direction, put your foot on top of the ball to stop it from moving. In the same movement, drag the ball backward under your foot, then step in another direction. This can be a very effective move if used at speed.

    The Step Over

    • The step over allows you to create time and space. It fools an opponent by faking a movement in one direction before moving off in another. To perform the step over, swing your first foot above the ball as if you are about to move it in one direction. Swing your hips and body in that same direction. This movement should fool the defender into thinking he knows where you are going to go. Then push the ball in another direction with the outside of your foot and accelerate away from your opponent.
