How to Have Discipline When Coaching

To be a successful coach in any sport, you need to have discipline. Without it, your players will run all over you and your team will be at the bottom of the division. Ensuring that discipline is part of your team is one of the key parts of being a coach. It will take some time, but when once your players understand how you run the team, everything will fall into place.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a set of rules that everyone has to follow. These rules must be followed by everyone on the team, from the the star players to the bench warmers. Rules structure a team so that each member is working on the same page. Insist that the players must always be respectful of you and of each team member.

    • 2

Create a schedule. Establishing a schedule allows every player to arrive to practice and games with time to warm up and prepare.

    • 3

Talk with your players. If you do not communicate with your team, the team members will not listen to you. Establish a rapport with your team to help build camaraderie.

    • 4

Write a practice plan. Jot down what your plan for practices are so that everyone can see.

    • 5

Enforce your rules. If you do not enforce your rules, the players will think that you are weak and will take advantage of you. Follow through with all forms of discipline.
