Step-by-Step Building of a Skateboard

If you are interested in skateboarding as a recreational sport but do not want to spend big bucks on purchasing a prefabricated skateboard, you can build your own. By purchasing a blank skateboard deck for a fraction of the cost and some necessary hardware, you can have your own custom-made board to sport when out on the pike. Best of all, you don't need to be a carpenter to build your own skateboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the blank skateboard deck with fine grit sandpaper. Make the deck sides and edges smooth. Drill holes in the sanded board to mount the trucks, which are the skateboard's axles.

    • 2

Prime the skateboard deck with primer and let dry according to the manufacturer's directions. Paint the skateboard deck with colors of your choosing. Allow the paint to dry as long as recommended by the manufacturer.

    • 3

Apply a coat of polyurethane sealer to the sanded, painted skateboard deck to protect the paint job and seal the board. Let the polyurethane sealer dry for at least two hours before attaching the trucks and wheel assembly.

    • 4

Put the wheel assembly together and then mount the trucks to the blank skateboard deck using a screw gun. Apply clear grip tape to the skateboard deck.
