1
Cut the lumber to the sizes you need. Grab your 2-by-4's and cut 6 pieces that are one foot long. Also cut 12 pieces from the 2-by-4's that are 1 foot 9 inches long. Make sure you keep four 8-foot long 2-by-4's intact for the sides of the box. Cut your pieces of ply wood. One should be cut to 2 feet wide and the other to 1 foot 3/4 inch wide. Both pieces should be 8 feet long.
-
2
Frame the bottom of the box. Use two 8 foot long 2-by-4's to line your sides. Place two 1 foot 9 inch 2-by-4's on the ends of the 8 foot 2-by-4's to create the basic box shape. Use a third 1 foot 9 inch 2-by-4 in the middle of the box. Screw all of the pieces together with two screws, one above the other, at each joint. The completed bottom should look like a rectangle split down the middle or two squares attached together.
-
3
Frame the top of the box. Start by making a duplicate of the bottom. Once you have completed that, attach another 1 foot 9 inch 2-by-4 every foot of the top frame. There should be 9, 1 foot 9 inch 2-by-4, cross pieces.
-
4
Attach your height to the bottom frame. Take your 6 one foot 2-by-4's and attach them at 6 corners of frame, the four end corners and opposite corners of the middle cross piece. Attach these pieces with at least four screws on both sides of each piece.
-
5
Attach the top frame to the other end of the height piece the same way that you did with the bottom frame. This should leave you with a complete, 3-dimensional, box.
-
6
Attach your 2 foot wide piece of plywood to the top of the box and your 1 foot 3/4 inch ply wood to one of the sides. Insert screws on the ends to secure them in place.
-
7
Drill 8 holes, four on each side, in your angle iron. Attach the angle iron to the corner where the pieces of plywood meet. Insert screws where you drilled the holes to secure the angle iron in place.
