What Physical Fitness Is Required for Skydivers?
-
Age
-
Typically, a skydiver must be 18 years old, with no upper age limit.
General Health
-
Generally, most who want to skydive are able to do so, as long as your health is in good condition.
Strength
-
Skydivers must be strong enough to wear about 35 pounds of equipment.
Weight
-
The weight limit for solo jumps, determined by the Federal Aviation Administration, is 254 pounds. For tandem jumps, the weight limit is 500 pounds; however, this includes the instructor's weight and about 50 pounds of equipment. If you are over 210 pounds, call your jump center first, as you may not be allowed to jump.
Medical Conditions
-
If you have a weak heart, are prone to fainting or have respiratory issues, skydiving may not be right for you.
Disabilities
-
A disability won't necessarily preclude you from skydiving. Just make sure to call your jump center first, since you may need to make special arrangements.
