How to Learn Vert

Learning to skateboard a vert ramp takes dedication, time and a fair share of guts. But with enough time and willingness to learn, any experienced skateboarder can successfully reach this pinnacle of skateboarding prowess. A few simple steps will help you get to the heights of the vert ramp with more confidence and less chance of injury. Read on to learn more.

      Get comfortable on a mini ramp before going to vert. A mini ramp has many of the same qualities of a full-blown vert ramp, so practice on a mini is a very good primer for the big leagues. Try get to a point where you can perform and land tricks on the mini ramp with confidence and even a little bit of style.

      Hang out at a vert ramp to acclimate to the new environment. Many people get fazed just by the sheer height of the vert ramp's high walls, so getting used to the height and feeling of being on a vert ramp before you attempt to skate will greatly increase your chances of success.

      Start from the bottom of the ramp and gain speed by pumping on either side of the ramp. This will allow you to learn the vert ramp without encountering the difficulty of the drop in. Work from the bottom until you are comfortable enough to gain sufficient speed to hit the top of the ramp.

      Drop in once without expecting to complete a full run. Allow yourself to drop in and immediately slide onto your knee pads just to get the feeling of the drop. On the other hand, if your first drop-in feels comfortable, let yourself roll with it and complete the run.
