How to Get Sponsored Wakeboarding
Instructions

1
Visit your local wakeboard shop often and make friends with the staff. Wakeboard shops are hotbeds for the latest industry news, gossip about new local talent and upcoming events. The more you visit, the faster you'll be recognized as a dedicated supporter of the wakeboard scene and the shop itself.
-
2
Ask the shop staff about their sponsorship program once you've become familiar with everyone. Many shops have a team of talented local wakeboarders that they support with free or discounted product. In exchange for sponsorship, riders are expected to promote the shop's name and equipment. The staff will likely ask you to join them on the water to check out your skills. If they like your riding style and trick selection, they may place you on the official team.
-
3
Attend all of the local wakeboarding events, including contests, instructional clinics or shop demos. Many talent scouts from big-name companies attend events, and they'll be looking for riders with unique styles and solid repertoires of tricks. In addition to displaying your moves, you'll be able to mingle with fellow riders and talk to important people in the professional wakeboarding industry.
-
4
Ride with friends or locals who are already sponsored. As with any other competitive industry, connections go a long way. Talk to your riding buddies about companies that are looking for new riders, or ask one of them to mention your name to a brand representative. Though networking won't take the place of skill on the board, it won't hurt your chances of sponsorship.
-
5
Film a "sponsor me" video, along with a brief rider resume, and send it to your favorite companies. The video should contain footage of you performing some of your best tricks and showing your overall comfort on the board. On the resume include some basic information about yourself, such as how long you've been riding, which professional riders you look up to and a brief list of the tricks you can do consistently.
