    • In the 1990s, personal trainer Beto Perez forgot the music he usually used when teaching an aerobics class. Perez decided to use the music he did have with him -- Latin salsa and merengue -- and to create the class around that. Zumba Fitness Party was born out of that accident.

    • Zumba is interval training and resistance training, which are designed to tone the body and burn fat. The workout is based on several dance styles, including merengue, salsa, reggaeton and mambo.
