Tae Bo Physically
-
The word "tae" in Korean means foot and leg. In Tae Bo this represents the series of kicks, leg raises and pivots used in the workout. The workout is set to face-paced music to liven up the routine, making it almost dance-like. Front kicks, side kicks and back kicks are the foundation of the Tae Bo workout. "Bo" is a shortened word for "box" that Billy Blanks, the founder of Tae Bo, created. The use of punches and arm movements builds upper body strength and flexibility. Learn the techniques slowly and focus on form to prevent injury and maximize the workout when you have mastered the techniques. Combined, Tae Bo has come to represent one of the highest quality overall body workouts a person can do.
Stamina
-
Keeping the pace of the workout very high, Tae Bo challenges every muscle in the body, particularly the heart. Keeping up with the workout has most people dripping in sweat and gasping for air. Do the workout at your own pace, but do not stop until the routine is done. With each workout, you push your body further and make it stronger. Every time you do the workout, you are challenged to push yourself a little further. By learning the kicks and punches and then having to perform them in an aerobic situation, you are further challenged to improve speed and accuracy of each movement.
Mental Exercise
-
The biggest part of Tae Bo is the belief that doing the workout instills in you. There are people who have serious medical conditions who are unable to complete the workout without using a chair for balance that swear by the mental capacity to push themselves farther. Part of this is the charisma of Billy Blanks, the founder, who pushes people in his videos in a positive and inspiring way. The core of the workout is a martial arts discipline of respect and self-worth. This is what helps people to overcome mental obstacles and push their bodies further with each workout; this determination translates into other areas of their lives.
