Bongo Board Tips

The Bongo Board is a personal training device developed specifically for surfers and skiers to help develop and maintain their balance during their off-season. The Bongo Board helps develop the complete body coordination necessary for excellent balance, as well as strengthening the core muscle areas. Designed for basic and advanced tricks, the Bongo Board allows you to have fun while working out and developing your abilities.
  1. Safety

    • Safety gear should be worn at all times when using a Bongo Board, regardless of your skill level. This includes knee, elbow and wrist guards as well as a helmet. Especially when you are first starting out on the Bongo Board or are attempting new and difficult tricks, it is recommended that you have a second person who can act as a spotter to help you keep from falling. If a spotter isn't available, a handrail or wall can be used. Using your Bongo Board on padded surfaces or even carpet is another way to help minimize the likelihood of injury.

    Stance

    • While using your Bongo Board, it is important to keep your feet at about shoulder width and your knees bent. This stance allows for maximum balance and the most complete body workout. Avoid looking down at your feet or the ground, instead focusing straight ahead. Stay relaxed and ensure that you are not holding your breath, instead breathing at regular intervals.

    Honing Your Skills

    • Remember that the Bongo Board is a challenging device to use, so don't get frustrated if you don't catch on immediately. Take your time to develop your skills on the Bongo Board and don't attempt advanced moves until you have become proficient at the basic uses of the Bongo Board. Once you have become proficient at basic balancing on your Bongo Board, you can remove the retention strap which will allow the roller to freely move, giving you a whole new field of balance to develop.

    Know Your Limits

    • If you have any health conditions, speak with your doctor before beginning a Bongo Board training regimen. When using the Bongo Board, be sure to take breaks when necessary and don't overexert yourself. Injuries often happen when people are tired or aren't focusing on their activities. Also, should you feel any new aches or pains, stop using your Bongo Board immediately.
