How to Adjust the P90X Nutrition Plan for a Night Workout

The P90X Nutrition Plan assumes that you'll be working out in the morning. Unfortunately, morning workouts aren't convenient for everyone. If you'd rather work out late at night -- say, after 9 p.m. -- you'll have to make a minor adjustment to the plan. While your meals will remain the same, the time for your recovery drink will be later in the day.

      Eat three meals a day just as you normally would with the P90X Nutrition Plan. According to sports nutritionist Rebeca Scritchfield, you need to be properly fueled to get through your workouts. You don't need to eat right before working out though; if you've eaten throughout the day, you'll still have enough energy by the late evening.

      Eat one snack between your meals but skip the recovery drink that's scheduled with your morning snack.

      Drink your recovery drink immediately after finishing your late-night workout. According to Jessica Seaton, the chair of the USMS Sports Medicine Committee, recovery drinks are most effective for rebuilding muscles if consumed within two hours of exercising.
