How to Attach Spinning Cleats

Spinning classes take the stationary bike to a new level by utilizing the motivational powers of talented instructors. Spinning is a well-orchestrated cardiovascular workout designed to maximize your endurance. One of the things that makes spinning attractive is that you don't need a lot of equipment. Gyms provide the stationary bikes, and all participants need to bring are proper shoes and cleats. Spinning cleats are necessary to secure your feet because of the rapid pedaling involved in a typical spin class.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to make sure your spinning cleats came with bolts. If not, purchase the required bolts from a cycling store or gym.

    • 2

Place a spinning cleat on the underside of a cycling shoe. Make sure to center the cleat under the ball of your foot because this is where your foot contacts the pedal.

    • 3

Insert a bolt into each side of the cleat. Use an Allen wrench to tighten the bolts.

    • 4

Attach the cleats to the pedals on the bike. Make sure the ball of your foot is centered over the cleat and the cleat is centered on the pedal. They should be aligned so that your knee and hip extend straight and with ease, and not on an angle. Off-centered cleats will cause unnecessary strain on your joints.

Pedal the bike to test the feel of your new cleats. If necessary, loosen the bolts with the Allen wrench and reposition the cleats to get a correct fit.
