How to Make a Wall-Mounted Vertical Jump Tracker

A good vertical leap can have benefits in sports and is also indicative of strength and power in the lower body. While there are many exercises that can improve your vertical leap, measuring it is necessary as both a means to track progress and for motivation. There are two primary methods of measuring a vertical leap. The more technical one is a tall pole with sticks that you knock to the side at the top of your jump. The second version is a wall-mounted sheet that measures your mark at the top of your jump. This version is easier to make and can record all your jumps, allowing you to see your progress.

Set the cardboard down on a flat surface. Place the measuring stick on the cardboard and measure out intervals. The size of the intervals is determined by the user, but between four to six inches is ideal. Mark these intervals all the way up the cardboard using the tape.

Go to the area you will be mounting your vertical jump tracker. Stand with one shoulder against the wall and extend the arm nearest the wall straight up. Use a pen or pencil to mark just above the highest point of your hand.

Stand on a stool or ladder and place the cardboard against the wall. The bottom of the cardboard should be on the mark you made in the previous step. The intervals should be going up the wall.
