How to Get Your Vertical Jump Using the Vertex
Instructions

1
Set up the jump tester in an area that gives you enough space to actually jump. This may be in a gym or outside. You need a flat surface so the tester isn't higher or lower than where you jump from. The tester has a series of movable inch markings at the very top of the device.
-
2
Position yourself directly under the overhanging markers of the vertical jump tester.
-
3
Stretch one of your arms straight in the air. Have a partner measure how tall you are, including the outstretched hand.
-
4
Crouch down below the tester or take a single step backwards. You may need to find what position is best for you. Do not take a running jump, because this can alter your vertical leap, and you may not reach the peak of your running jump when you touch the markings.
-
5
Leap up into the air, swinging your hand to touch and move the measurements at the top of the vertical jump tester. The top measurement that you move is your total height.
-
6
Subtract your height from the total height, and this is your vertical jump
