Calf Wedge Stretching
What is commonly referred to as the calf muscle is a combination of several muscles, mainly the soleus and the gastrocnemius. These muscles work with several others to facilitate flex and extension of the ankle joint and foot. Like other muscles, calf muscles are susceptible to cramping. Cramps commonly occur in the calves because of how frequently they are used. The calf wedge is a device that helps stretch them out and can lead to fewer cramps and diminish the chances of a more serious problem.

Using the Calf Wedge

1
Place the Calf Wedge down on a flat surface that will hold it firmly, not letting it slide. If necessary, place the Calf Wedge against a wall or other stationary object so that it won't move.
-
2
Rest the front part of one foot on the Calf Wedge. This should include your toes and ball of your foot.
-
3
Lean your body forward with the weight on the front part of your foot. If your body's weight is too much you can use the other leg for balance and support.
-
4
Hold the stretch. Static stretches such as this should be held for a minimum of 20 seconds.
-
5
Switch to the other leg and repeat the stretch.
