How to Stretch Your Hamstrings in an Open Doorway

Your hamstrings, which are made up of three strips of muscles that run along the back of your thighs, can get stiff and sore after a hard workout at the gym or at the park. Stretching your hamstrings with an open doorway can provide a quick relief for the aching muscles. Find a quiet spot at home, lie down, take a deep breath and start stretching.

Instructions

  1. Supine Doorway Hamstring Stretch

    • 1

Lie on the floor on your back and put your left buttock, hamstrings and calf against the doorjamb of the doorway. Put your arms out to your sides. Keep your right leg straight pass the doorway with your right foot pointing up.

    • 2

Hold the stretch for two to three deep breaths and bend your knee slightly by sliding your heel down down the doorjamb.

    • 3

Exhale as you slide your heel up until your leg is completely straight. Repeat the stretch five to 10 times on each leg.
