How to Tie Running Shoe Laces

Many runners have a problem with their shoe laces coming undone when they are on a track or trail. Loose shoe laces can cause the runner to trip and hurt themselves. The reef knot is an ideal way to tie your shoes in a fast and secure knot. A reef knot is a similar to a standard shoelace knot. You can combine both techniques for a more secure knot, if you have longer laces.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick up the right lace with your left hand and the left lace with your right hand. The laces should make an "X." Wrap the right lace underneath the base of the laces. Pull the laces tightly.

    • 2

Cross the right lace over the left lace. Wrap the end of the left lace under the right lace. Tightly pull the laces downward to tie another knot.

    • 3

Wrap the right lace between your thumb and forefinger. Repeat with the left lace. You will have two loops, similar to bunny ears.

    • 4

Cross the two loops. Take the right loop and tuck it under the gap where you tied the knot. Pull the right and left loops tightly. You have tied your running shoes into combination of a reef knot/standard shoelace knot.
