Instructions

    • 1

Attach a pedometer to your body and walk around a quarter-mile track once.

    • 2

Check the pedometer to find the number of steps taken in a quarter-mile.

    • 3

Multiply the steps required to walk a quarter-mile by 4 to find the steps per mile. For example, if you need 500 steps to go once around a quarter-mile track, your number of steps per mile is 2,000 (500 x 4 = 2,000).

    • 4

To find the number of miles you walk in a day, divide the number of steps taken in a day by the number of steps per mile. For example, if you took 5,000 steps in a day and number of steps per mile is 2,000, you walked 2.5 miles that day (5,000/2,000 = 2.5).
