How to Calculate MPH in Minutes Walking

Miles per hour (mph) is a standard measurement of speed typically used for speed limits with vehicles. For example, if a car is driving down the interstate at 60 mph, the vehicle is traveling 1 mile per minute, since there are 60 minutes in an hour. Your walking speed can be calculated in a similar fashion.

Instructions

    • 1

Set your pedometer to distance walked in miles instead of steps taken.

    • 2

Walk for a set amount of time for some fraction of an hour.

    • 3

Insert the mileage walked into the calculator.

    • 4

      Press the divide sign.

    • 5

Insert the time walked. If you walked for an hour, divide by one. For half an hour, divide by one-half.

    • 6

Divide by 60, which will give you miles walked each minute. This should be a decimal number.
