1
Practice patience and understanding with the person who you are teaching how to skateboard. Explain every part of the board in detail, and explain exactly how you want her to perform. Go slow and answer questions that come up with detailed answers. Explain each piece of safety gear and how to properly wear it.
-
2
Remove the shoes that you are wearing and place them on the board to show proper foot placement. Have your student stand on the board slowly with your support so he can feel the correct foot placement also. Provide canes for support so that your student does not fall over and has a better chance to develop a sense of balance.
-
3
Have the student talk over the lesson with you. This will provide the occasion for questions to arise and give you both a better sense of understanding. Remain patient and confident through the entire lesson. Basically, respect your elders.
-
4
Start the student rolling slowly, and then work into kicking for speed. Explain turning and stopping also. Encourage the student to keep trying, and be aware of physical safety concerns. Older people have bones that are more brittle that those of the younger set. Focus on learning the basics first, and then work with advanced tricks and lessons later.
