Purchase ACE study materials for the type of certification you are seeking. These are available on the ACE website and have all the information you will need to pass the ACE exam for certification. ACE offers different packages which can include flash cards or practice tests. Choose the one that fits your budget and career goals.

Study for the exam. ACE recommends a person devote three to six months of studying for the exam. Although, if already working in the fitness industry or certified by another program you may be able to reduce the time needed to study for the exam. They also offer an online study coach that will help you to prepare for the exam.

Register for the exam. ACE charges a basic registration fee for the exam. This can be done online or by mail. Registration must be received at least fifteen days before the exam. All exams are proctored and you must take the exam at an ACE testing location. These testing locations are available all over the country. You will not be allowed to use a personal computer.

Take the exam. You can choose to take the exam on a computer or by paper test. This will cover everything in the study materials and can take up to three hours to complete. Depending on the type of certification you are pursuing the exams can range from 150 multiple choice questions to one that includes a written simulation test. The exam is scaled between 200 and 800 points and you will need a 500 or better to receive ACE certification. You will receive the results of your exam the same day you take it.
