Guided Tone & Vibrational Meditation

Author William Congreve said, "Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast," and scientists have discovered that indeed, certain sounds and tones manmade and occurring in nature have the ability to calm and heal the body. Guided meditation using specific sounds and tones is one of the most effective methods of facilitating healing.
  1. Sound Is Energy

    • Each sound or tone carries a particular vibration or electrical impulse that can have an effect on the human body. Since the beginning of time, primitive cultures have created tools and instruments to create sound with a belief that these sounds and vibrations altered consciousness, creating magic and change.

    Sound Affects the Body

    • To understand how sound effects humans on a very basic level, think about singing softly to a baby while rocking her to sleep, or the power of heavy metal music to energize a crowd of listeners. According to the Center for Neuroacoustic Research and the California Institute for Human Science, mechanoreceptors in the body's tissues transform sound waves into electrical stimuli. These stimuli, or resonances, can therapeutically affect cells in the body.

    Guided Meditation

    • Guided meditation utilizes an instructor or teacher, or a recorded dialogue over music, tonal vibrations and nature sounds. Community education organizations or yoga schools often offer guided meditation sessions at a nominal fee. Guided meditation sessions are available on CD at book stores, whole health stores and on the Internet. Guided meditation used in conjunction with musical tones and nature sounds allows users to get to deep states of relaxation that can help relieve stress.

    Visualization

    • Another component of successful guided tone and vibrational meditation is visualization. This component was explained in detail in the book "Creative Visualization" by author and healer Shakti Gawain. Visualization uses the imagination to see a goal in the mind's eye, giving it energy and manifesting it into reality. Visualization is used as a road map to a person's dreams and goals, creating positive energy in one's life, rather than focusing on the negative. Using visualization in combination with guided meditation and tone is a powerful tool to bring joy into a person's life.

    Methods

    • You can use several methods of creating tonal vibrations. Vocal tones have been used since ancient times in the forms of chanting, singing and humming. Tibetan singing bowls most often made of metal produce clear tones that resonate with the spiritual and physical body when lightly struck with a wooden mallet. Drumming is a method of creating tone and vibration that resonates with the body and spirit. Orchestral music is often used, as well as the Indian flute. The method you use is a matter of personal preference as to which sounds and tones resonate with your physical, mental and spiritual self. The combination of tonal vibration, visualization and guided meditation is a powerful way to create change and bring peace, relaxation and healing into your life
