1
Practice krav maga. This self-defense system caters to individuals of average strength and size, as well as of either gender and various body shapes. Krav maga's tenets can equip you with techniques to withstand an attack to your body successfully.

2
Strengthen your abs and neck. Crunches and oblique twists can improve your core muscles, essential for balance and strength when attacked. Use a resistance band to build up your neck muscles, which can help you quickly move your head out of harm's way. Such development is especially important for people with "glass jaws," or weak chins.

3
Assume a relaxed yet alert position in your body. Keep your palms open; balling them into fists can potentially bait an already irate opponent. Maintain some distance between your legs, about shoulder-width apart, and bend your knees slightly. Stand ready to raise your arms up, should your opponent aim for your face.
-
4
Encourage your opponent to concentrate her punch on your abs. Placed elsewhere, a punch fueled by a maximum turn could damage your liver, spleen or groin.
-
5
Constrict your body before the punch. Flex your abdominal muscles -- tightening them in order to absorb the punch's impact. Fully exhale the air from your lungs, which helps preempt damage to these organs.
-
6
Give in to the blow. Move along with the force of the punch. Avoid holding your ground, opting instead to move backward as the punch forces you so.
