How to Dress for Krav Maga

When you sign up for a Krav Maga self defense or fighting class, you need to know what to wear for the classes. Required attire may vary from one location to another or even upon the preference of the instructor. Use the guidelines that follow to get the general idea of what will be required attire in a Krav Maga class.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear the basics if you are a beginner to the process and did not receive any prior instructions regarding attire. The basics would include sweat pants or loose fitting pants and a regularly sized t-shirt. Do not wear tank tops, shorts or any type of revealing clothing. Basically, your clothing should be athletic style so as when being flipped or tossed about, your shirt does not fly up or off. Do not wear any type of jewelry or metal belts during class.

    • 2

Dress in all black pants or shirts if required by a particular instructor or Krav Maga facility. Some may even have a required uniform for students to wear to class. Some require that students wear certified Krav Maga training clothing in the form of t-shirts and pants.

    • 3

Protect your feet by wearing the appropriately styled shoes during the Krav Maga classes. Recommended footwear would be white soled athletic shoes or the non-skid athletic shoes. Do not wear street shoes with leather soles or athletic shoes with cleats.

    • 4

Prepare for some Krav Maga self-defense classes by simply wearing your regular street clothes. The point of the class is to protect or defend yourself, so you would need to do that in your normal street wear. This, of course, depends upon the instructor and facility policies.

Enter a Krav Maga fighting class with a little more preparation placed on attire for the class. The fighting classes are more intense than the regular self-defense classes. Your hands will have to be wrapped for the 16 oz. fighting gloves. Wear a mouth guard, shin guards, head protection gear and items for groin protection. Some instructors make all of these items mandatory to avoid injuries while in class.
