Black Dragon Fighting Techniques

Black dragon is a style of kung fu that is thought to have evolved from the original Shaolin Temple styles of traditional kung fu. The style is believed to have originated in A.D. 714 at a temple in Hunan. Black dragon is a close-range style that has more in common with southern-style martial arts than northern styles with their long-range kicks and strikes.
  1. Trapping and Grappling

    • Black dragon is a well-rounded system of fighting that employs trapping and grappling techniques. These techniques are known as chin'na and are used to trap an opponent's limbs or lock his joints in order to make him submit.

    Kicks

    • While there are kicks involved in black dragon style, they are mostly short-range kicks that are intended to be delivered no higher than waist level. The system does contain some high kicks, but these are primarily for sport and not intended to be used as actual fighting techniques.

    Pressure Point Strikes

    • Black dragon kung fu is also known for utilizing pressure-point strikes, which are known as dim mak. Dim mak strikes are delivered to specific pressure points on an opponent's body and can be used to neutralize or immobilize an opponent as well as to cause great pain or shock.

    Fluid Flow of Energy

    • Black dragon kung fu spurns the rigid forms or katas found in some martial arts systems in favor of more adaptable, flowing forms. This also holds true when it comes to black dragon fighting technique, which is intended to flow freely and harness the energy of a practitioner through a practice known as qi gong. The fluidity of black dragon kung fu allows practitioners to easily adjust to the distance and angle of an opponent's position for attacking and defending purposes.
