How to Do Wing Chun Pak Da Drills

Wing Chun is a martial art that focuses on fighting techniques used for self-defense. It is a martial art sport developed about 400 years ago in China during the revolution. Wing Chun was designed to be a disarming form of combat that originated by rebels in hiding at Buddhist monasteries. The Pak Da drills teach basic techniques used in most all Wing Chun routines.

      Watch your opponent's elbows closely to judge his next punches. Pat the punches that come at you. Keep this up as your partner alternates punching arms.

      Remain aware of your foot placement at all times. Even though most of your Wing Chun training will focus on the hand movements as taught in Pak Da drills, the feet will provide the balance that you need to move in and take advantage of an entry point.

      Keep your elbows bent downward at all times when doing Pak Da drills, as is the Wing Chun style. With your elbows bent downward, you can bring more strength and speed to the punches you will deliver when fighting.

      Practice meditation in Wing Chun training. It is the ability to maintain your focus and overcome your own fears and outside distractions that are among the techniques you will develop in Wing Chun drills. Though they may seem monotonous, do not underestimate the power of deliberate concentration.

      Follow the Pak Da in fighting with the Pak Sau, which has you punch with your free hand wile holding your opponent's punching hand with your other hand.
