How to Make Air Hockey Pucks

Air hockey tables are often seen as a luxury, but with a little ingenuity you can build your own on a tight budget. No air hockey table is complete without the puck, which players hit back and forth with the mallets in an attempt to score. A playable air hockey puck needs to have a large circular surface area to catch enough blown air to hover and yet be flat enough to fit into the goals.

  • Metal jar lid
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Black felt

Instructions

      Place the metal jar lid upside down on a piece of paper. Trace the outline of the lid onto the paper with a pencil, and cut out the circle with the scissors.

      Lay the paper circle on top of a larger piece of black felt. Smooth out the paper so it's absolutely flat. Pin the paper onto the black felt to hold its position.

      Cut out a black felt circle, using the paper circle as a guide. Remove the pins and paper from the black felt afterwards.

      Turn the metal jar lid over and place a few drops of glue in the corner and the center of the lid. Place the black felt on top of the glue. Tuck in the felt so that no felt is hanging outside of the jar lid (and the edges of the lid are not exposed). Cut off any excess felt.
