How to Arm Wrestle

Arm wrestling is a competitive sport that requires strength, speed and technique to win. The sport is played with two participants who try to pin the other person's arm to the table. There is more to arm wrestling than just gripping your opponent's hand.

      Get a table. Select a table where it is easy to arm wrestle. There are special arm wrestling tables which have a peg, pin line and elbow pad for each side of the table. It is designed for you to stand while you arm wrestle.

      Pick an opponent. Strength is one of the main elements in winning an arm wrestling match. Most opponents are chosen as a way to validate who is stronger. Arm wrestle for fun with any other person.

      Decide if you need an announcer or referee. Playing with a pin plane requires a person who can watch and verify when the pin plane is broken.

      Play the sport. Each opponent places the elbow of their arm wrestling hand on the table. Grip the peg or the edge of the table with hands. Once both competitors have done this, grip the other hands. An announcer or referee inspects the positioning and then says "Ready-Go."

      Follow the rules. A winner causes the opponent's hand to break the pin plane which extends across your half opposite your half of the table. To win, the opponent's hand must be at least three inches above the table top.
