How to Rewrap a Cue
Things You'll Need
- 220- to 320-grit sandpaper
- Cotton ball
- Rubbing alcohol
- Drill with 1/16 bit
- Wood or white school glue
- Paintbrush
- Linen cue wrap
- Toothpicks
- 2 pieces of wood
Instructions
-
-
1
Take the old wrap off the cue. This will expose the area from the butt of the cue to the collar. Throw the old wrap away.
-
2
Smooth the surface and remove the glue from the area you removed the old wrap from. Use 220- to 320-grit sandpaper. Avoid sanding any other area of the cue.
-
3
Soak a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and clean this surface. Allow the surface to dry.
-
4
Drill a small hole ¼ inch deep using a 1/16-inch bit on each end of the area you are working on.
-
5
Squeeze some glue into either one of the holes and use a toothpick to insert the end of your linen into the hole. Break the toothpick so it is flush with the surface of the cue, leaving the toothpick tip in the hole.
-
6
Thin some glue with a small amount of water in a bowl and spread it evenly over the cue handle with your finger or a small paintbrush.
-
7
Rotate the linen around the handle. Make sure you do this slowly. The linen must be tight against the handle with no gaps between the linen strands as you move down the handle.
-
8
Repeat Step 5 to finish the linen with the toothpick when you get to your second hole. Cut any excess off the end.
-
9
Place your wrapped cue on a piece of hardwood. Grab another piece of wood and squeeze the wrapped part of the cue between the two pieces of wood. Slowly rotate the cue so the glue mixture penetrates the linen thoroughly and sets well.
-
10
Allow the rewrapped cue to dry thoroughly before using. Usually it will be ready by the next day.
