How to Seal Pool Table Seams

Pool tables seem to be a fairly simple construction, but can be more difficult than some assume. When assembling your own table, you have to make sure the surface is level and the seams are sealed, so the table does not have bumps or lines that can throw off the travel of the pool balls. Pool tables generally come in three slate sections that are attached to form the playing surface. Seal the seams between the slate sections to ensure a flat, even, stable playing surface.

  • Wax pool table sealant
  • Propane torch
  • Paint scraper

      Line up the slate sections so they are centered and even; they should be in their final places before you attempt to seal them.

      Heat the wax with the propane torch until it is dripping.

      Drip wax onto the seam of the pool table. Use enough wax that it will cover at least 1 inch to each side of the seam. Using extra wax will ensure that the wax gets all the way into the seam, instead of just resting on the surface.

      Allow the wax to dry for 30 seconds.

      Scrape the excess wax off.

      Run your hand over the surface to check for extra wax or accidental holes. There should be no surface inconsistencies. Fill in any holes or remove any excess wax.
