How to Repair a Pool Table Slate
Over the years, a well-used pool table will see its fair share of wear and tear. Occasionally, the slate may get dinged or cracked, requiring a repair job. While a professional can provide you with a like-new slate, it can be an expensive process. Instead, for smaller cracks, you can repair your pool table's slate yourself.
Things You'll Need
- Socket wrench
- Staple remover
- Billiard table wax
- Torch
- Slate repair glue
- Paint scraper
- Stapler
Instructions
-
-
1
Remove the table railings. Unscrew the bolts holding the rail in place with the socket wrench.
-
2
Remove the staples holding the felt on the pool table and remove the felt.
-
3
Examine the slate for any dings, cracks or holes.
-
4
Fill holes. Melt billiard table wax into the indent so that it's fully filled, with overflow above the surface of the slate.
-
5
Mend cracks. Apply glue to the crack and push the edges of the slate back together.
-
6
Scrape off excess wax or glue with the paint scraper once all repair substances have dried. Restaple the felt or re-felt the table (see Resources). Replace the railings.
