Snooker Hints & Tips

Snooker is one of the most popular billiard games worldwide. It is played on a table that is 12 feet long and 6 feet wide, and features a cue ball, 15 red balls and six colored balls. Each ball carries a different numerical value and the objective is to pot the balls and score more points than your opponent. Snooker matches typically consist of a certain number of frames; the player who takes the most frames is the winner.
  1. Bridging

    • The term bridging refers to the hand you place on the table. The idea is to keep your bridge hand as central as possible with your fingers touching the cloth. To get the cue ball to spin back toward you after it makes contact with the object ball, you'll need to have your hand flat on the table. To put topspin on the cue ball, you'll need to elevate your hand slightly.

    Cueing

    • Make sure your arm is over the cue. Keep your arm completely still and use your elbow to strike through the cue ball. Your elbow should be in line with the cue, not tucked into your chest or falling away from your body.

    Concentration

    • A snooker match is often won by the player with the greater powers of concentration. As matches can be time-consuming, they require plenty of tactical focus, so try and set aside any worries and concentrate entirely on the match.
