1
Cut three pieces of nylon cord approximately three times the length of the finished lanyard you wish. For example, if you want a lanyard that is 24 inches long, cut three 72 inch pieces of the cord. Place the lighter flame under the cuts to melt the nylon ends and prevent frying.
-
2
Tie a loop knot into the bottom of each strand of cord. Place all three cords -- the non-loop knot ends -- in the jaws of the vise grips so they are directly next to each other. Close and lock the vise grips. Place the vise grips into the bench vise and tighten so the cords extend out horizontally from the vise.

3
Grab the middle cord and hold in one hand. Grab the left outside cord and bring it over the center and right-hand cords. The left cord is now the far left cord. Grab the middle cord and bring it over the left hand cord, making it the new left-hand cord.
-
4
Grip the far right cord and bring it over the center and far left cord making it the new far left cord. Grip the middle cord and bring it over the far left cord making it the new far left cord.
-
5
Continue this up and over pattern of braids until you have four inches or cord on each of the three with the loop knots hanging off and out from the braided lanyard.
-
6
Take the braided lanyard out of the bench vise and the vise grips. Use the open three cords to make one solid loop knot and thread the bottom three strands through the giant loop and pull them all the way out and down making a full braided lanyard with the three individual loop knots hanging out. Tie the duck calls to the three loop knots.
