Instructions

    • 1

Look at your board. Is it a wave-jumping board? No? Don't go to Step 2 until you're riding one; you could seriously munch your board and equipment doing this.

    • 2

Watch the water ahead of you for a possible launching surface. A bump, a small wave or a boat wake will serve your purpose.

    • 3

Unhook from your harness and crouch low, ready to jump.

    • 4

Lift up your front leg and pull up with your front arm as your board hits the jumping surface.

    • 5

Sheet-in and raise your rear foot as the tail leaves the chop.

    • 6

Face the bottom of the board slightly windward to gain some wind-assisted altitude.

    • 7

Level out by pulling your legs up to your chest.

    • 8

Straighten your legs as you land, with your back leg coming down slightly before your front leg. Keep both legs bent just enough to absorb the impact.
