1
Wrap a shop cloth around the tip of a flat-blade screwdriver. Slip the screwdriver under the bottom edge of the speedometer-gas gauge trim plate. Twist the screwdriver gently to release the trim plate from around the gauge and the two buttons at the bottom of the gauge.
-
2
Remove the four screws that hold the speedometer in place in the instrument panel by using a Phillips screwdriver, and retain the screws. Lift the gauge and wiring from the instrument panel and deposit it on the shelf directly below the hole it occupied.
-
3
Remove the nuts from the posts on the back of the new gauge and place it face down on the shelf below the hole in the panel. Keep the nuts handy.
-
4
Remove the nut holding the dark blue instrument lighting wire to the post on the back of the old gauge by using a small adjustable wrench. Move the wire to the post on the new gauge marked with an "L." Install and tighten the nut on the post of the new gauge.
-
5
Move the pink wire -- from the sender in the fuel tank -- from the post on the back of the old gauge to the post on the back of the new gauge marked with an "S." Move the white wire that carries the speed-related information from the old gauge to the post on the new gauge marked "SIG."
-
6
Move the red power wire from the post on the old gauge to the post on the new gauge marked with a "+" sign. Move the green-and-yellow striped ground wire to the post on the new gauge marked "GND." Wrap a plastic zip-tie around the wires, about 2 inches from the back of the new gauge.
-
7
Push the wires, now all connected to the new gauge, down into the instrument panel and set the new gauge into the hole in the instrument panel where the old speedometer-gas gauge resided. Thread the four mounting screws into the corners of the new gauge and tighten the screws snugly. Snap the plastic trim plate around the new gauge.
