Bocce is a variant of lawn bowling. Originally developed in Italy during the 19th century, bocce was initially popular among Italian communities but is now played throughout the US. Bocce is played on a long asphalt court with metal or plastic balls. Players take turns throwing balls in an attempt to place their ball closest to a smaller ball, called a pallino. There are many bocce courts throughout California, and several courts in southern California are located in facilities that also serve alcohol.

    • The De La Bocce Restaurant, located in the Cooley Ranch neighborhood of Colton, California, is conveniently located near Interstate 215. De La Bocce has one 12-foot-by-60-foot outdoor bocce court on its outdoor patio, which is surrounded by grape vines, flowers and trees. The bocce court is available to restaurant guests. De La Bocce offers a casual atmosphere for both lunch and dinner, serving Italian sandwiches, soups and salads. The bar at De La Bocce serves wine and beer only. De La Bocce is open Tuesday through Sunday.

    Arnoldis Café

    • Arnoldis Café, located in downtown Santa Barbara, is an upscale restaurant and bar located only a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean. Arnoldis Café is easily accessible via US Highway 101. Arnoldis Café serves Italian cuisine for dinner seven days a week and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. The bar at Arnoldis Café serves wine only. Arnoldis Café has two outdoor full-length bocce courts that have been carefully maintained since 1940. Arnoldis also is the host of an annual bocce tournament, which is open to the public.

The single full-size outdoor bocce court at the Hotel Maya is available to guests of the hotel. The Hotel Maya is also the home of Fuego restaurant, an upscale restaurant serving coastal Latin cuisine. The bar at Fuego features premium tequilas and a tequila tasting bar.

    Byington Vineyards

    • The Byington Vineyard and Winery, located in Los Gatos, is in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains in central California. The facilities at Byington include picnic and barbecue areas accessible to the public. The picnic and barbecue areas at Byington feature a full-length outdoor bocce court. Guests at Byington have the option of bringing their own food and drink or using Byington's catering options and full-service bar, which is stocked with wines from the Byington Winery.
