1
Attach the leash from your body board to your wrist. Paddle your board beyond where the waves are breaking.
-
2
Lie down on your board with your hips touching the end of the board. Grab the top corners of the board with your hands, with your elbows resting on the board.
-
3
Kick underneath the water with your swimming fins when the wave approaches. Determine whether the wave is carrying you to either the right or left. Keep your left hand on the top of the board and slide your right hand 1/3 of the way down the side for a wave that is pushing you toward the left. Reverse the hand position for a wave that is pushing you toward the right.
-
4
Arch your back with your chest positioned over the front of the board and raise your head. Pull up the side of the board with your hand to dig into the wave on the opposite side and ride it up. Lower the side of the board to slide down the face of the wave.
-
5
Raise your swimming fins for speed, or drag them in the water to slow down.
