1
Feel for a spine, called a "stringer," running along the length of the bodyboard. When installing a leash plug, avoid the stringer. Not all bodyboards have a stringer.
-
2
Mark the spot on the bodyboard for the leash plug. Select a location 6 to 8 inches from the nose. Choose a spot either in the center or to the left or right of center. Lateral choice depends on the location of the stringer, and whether the rider wears the leash on his left or right bicep. The center of the bodyboard offers a neutral position.
-
3
Press the head of a screwdriver into the spot chosen for the leash plug. Force the screwdriver through the middle of the bodyboard in a straight line until the tip pushes against the underside. Do not force the screwdriver all the way through.
-
4
Insert the screwdriver through the underside, at the dimple created by the first hole.
-
5
Wiggle the screwdriver to widen the hole, allowing room for the leash plug.
-
6
Insert the leash end of the plug through the hole in the deck of the bodyboard. Insert the other end of the plug through the underside of the bodyboard. Use a larger coin, such as a quarter, to screw the lower plug into the upper plug.

Observe the string extending from the leash plug. Thread both ends of the string through the eyelet at the end of the leash.
-
8
Tie the two ends around your index finger, creating a loop.
-
9
Fit the string ends through the loop and pull the ends tight to form a knot.
