How to Toast Bagels While Camping

Many people enjoy eating bagels for breakfast. They toast them in the toaster and then spread cream cheese or peanut butter on them. But the toaster is an unnecessary part of the process, which means people who go camping also toast bagels. While doing so requires more preparation than simply plugging in a toaster, outdoor enthusiasts enjoy having some of the comforts of home while camping in the wilderness.

  • Fire grate

      Build a fire and let it burn down to the coals.

      Place a fire grate over the fire. It should be about 12 inches above the coals.

      Cut the bagel in half.

      Lay the two flat sides of the bagel on top of the fire grate. Check them after a minute or two to determine if they are toasted the way you like them. If not, lay them down again and check them again after a minute or two.

      Flip the bagels over and toast the opposite side for a minute or two. Check to see if they are toasted the way you like them. If not, toast them for another minute or two.
