How to Fix a Hole in a Coleman Vinyl Mattress

Air mattresses are convenient sleeping options for on-the-go situations. Air mattresses provide a comfortable sleeping surface at campsites, at picnics, on vacation and just as a temporary replacement mattress. Coleman air mattresses, which are designed for outdoor use, are constructed from highly durable vinyl and synthetic materials. However, even Coleman mattresses can rupture when exposed to sharp objects, and they must be repaired to seal the air leak and maintain inflation. Using sealants found at hardware and outdoor supply stores, a Coleman air mattress can be quickly repaired and used for many more years.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for tears or rips in the mattress. If none is visible, mix soap and water. Inflate the mattress as best as possible and spread the soapy mixture over the mattress. Look for bubbles on the mattress; this shows where air is escaping. Mark the leak area.

    • 2

Deflate the mattress and allow it to dry. Spread the mattress flat on the ground.

    • 3

Apply a few drops of super glue to the hole in the mattress. You can also use rubber cement to bind the hole.

    • 4

Purchase a patch kit for air mattresses, waterbeds or inner tubes to seal larger tears or holes. Remove the patch from its backing, apply the required amount of glue, and paste the patch on the vinyl. Allow it to dry overnight.

    • 5

Inflate the mattress to test its integrity. Dab soapy water on the patch area to make sure no air is leaking.
