Safety Harness Installation

A safety harness protects its wearer from falling, especially when activities involve enormous heights. If not worn properly, a harness can be useless and may increase your chances of serious injury. Confirm that the harness is appropriate for your activity, weight, size and fall distance. Installing or putting on harnesses may vary depending on the manufacturer, then learn the steps to put your particular harness on correctly.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the harness by its back strap or back D-ring and shake to let all straps fall in position.

    • 2

Check all the buckles to confirm that all parts are working. If any of the straps are buckled, release and unbuckle.

    • 3

Slip the straps over your shoulders so that the D-ring is at the center of your back between your shoulder blades.

    • 4

Pull each leg strap between your legs and connect to the opposite end. If you have a belted harness, connect the waist strap after attaching the leg straps.

    • 5

Join the chest strap and position it on your mid-chest. Tighten the straps to keep taut.

    • 6

Buckle all straps and tighten so that the harness fits snugly while still allowing you a full range of movement. Pass all excess straps through the loop keepers.
