How To Size Rock Climbing Shoes

1
Avoid buying rock climbing shoes online if you have never owned a pair before. Try on different brands and different sizes to determine the best fit for your foot. Different brands and different types of shoes are going to fit differently, so try on as many as possible.
-
2
Use your regular shoe size as a starting point. You may want to buy climbing shoes a half size or a full size smaller than your street shoes to ensure a snug fit.
-
3
Notice the position of your toes when you try on climbing shoes. Your toes should be pushing into the front of the shoe or even slightly turned down.
-
4
Try on both Velcro and lace-up shoes. You may find that you prefer the fit of one over the other. Lace-up shoes allow you to adjust the fit across various parts of the foot, giving you more control over the overall fit.
-
5
Remember that leather shoes will stretch with wear. If you try on a pair of shoes with leather uppers that fit perfectly, you may want to go down a half size.
-
6
Learn your European shoe size. Visit a footwear store and have your foot measured with a Brannock Device to learn your accurate European shoe size. Many climbing shoes are unisex, and knowing the European size will help avoid confusion between men's and women's sizes.
