Accuracy and Precision Dart Board Activity
-
Work on Your Technique
-
Assess your darts technique, which includes the position in which you stand to throw (stance), the way you hold the darts when throwing (grip) and the way you pull back your arm and release the dart (throw). Work on different stances, grips and throwing techniques to find the one that is most accurate and precise. It is also critical that your technique is comfortable, and does not place any unnecessary strain on your body.
Practice
-
Put in the hours in practice and you will reap the benefits of greater accuracy and precision when playing matches. Practice breaks down into many different formats, with some players preferring highly structured sessions involving different exercises, such as trying to hit doubles and triples. Other players prefer taking a more laid-back approach and just approaching each three throws with a different target in mind. For example, if you are practicing with a partner, get him to call out a random number, such as 61, and then you should attempt to check it out with two or three darts (hit triple 17, double 5, for example).
Play Matches
-
Throwing accurate and precise darts during practice is great, but it doesn't mean much if you can't transfer these skills to real match situations. Play matches to improve your accuracy and precision over time, as, in matches, you will find many situations where your accuracy will be tested. Matches are commonly played between two competitors, who both start on 501, take it in turns to throw three darts and remove the sum score of these darts from their total. One particular aspect of a darts match that requires precision is the "checkout," where players must reach either 50 and hit the red bull's-eye in the middle of the board or an even number from 40 and below and hit the corresponding double--for example, if you leave 32, you must hit double 16.
Play Games
-
Playing specialized games helps to improve your accuracy and precision. Playing either individually or against an opponent helps you have fun while improving your technique. Play around the world with an opponent, for example, where you must hit 1 to 20 in order (1, 2, 3) by hitting single numbers before hitting either an inner or an outer bull's-eye. You can progress from 1 to 20 faster if you hit a double to progress two numbers or a triple to progress three numbers--for example, if you are on 4 and you hit triple 4, you progress three numbers and must then hit 7. The winner of the game is the first person to move from 1 to 20 and then hit an inner or an outer bull's-eye, which tests accuracy and precision.
