How to Fling the Silver Dart

Silver darts are generally used by experienced amateurs or intermediate darts players. Their rather weighty nature means players have to be technically proficient enough to retain control and accuracy--a task slightly easier with the lighter brass or plastic darts. There are a few simple steps to consider when playing darts using these silver darts.

Be conscious of the weight. Silver darts are slightly heavier than most other common types of dart such as brass or plastic. If you have played before, it may take a little getting used to this weight difference, and you may have to use a little move leverage during the throw.

Take a strong stance. Stand with your legs straight, and your right foot planted about 5 inches in front of your left (or vice-versa if you are left handed). Keep your upper body straight and hold the dart firmly clasped between your thumb, index and middle finger. Your arm should bend at a firm right angle before throwing, and you need a small thrust of the forearm and wrist to throw the dart. The rest of your body should not move--you're a darts player, not a pitcher.

Don't use excess power. Although a silver dart is heavier than other materials, it does not mean you have to throw with more power--it just means you should have a stronger grip. The aerodynamic properties of the dart will ensure that a gentle thrust of the arm and wrist can enable you to "place" the dart on to the board, rather that thrusting it.

Be consistent with your technique. There are no hidden tricks to flinging a silver dart. If you consistently take the same stance and repeat the same motion, you should be able to, after a little practice, get the dart in the 20 bed fairly consistently. After that, it is a simple case of slightly adjusting your body shape and power of throw to aim at different numbers.
