Instructions

1
Tie a single snap swivel to the end of the fishing line.
-
2
Prepare hooks with wire leader as mackerel have very sharp teeth that can easily slice through monofilament line. Attach one single shank hook to the clip of a 4-inch wire leader, and a second single shank hook to the clip of a 10-inch wire leader.
-
3
Attach the free ends of both wire leaders to the clip on the swivel tied to the end of the fishing line.
-
4
Run the point of the hook attached to the shorter leader through the upper lip of the bait fish. Insert the hook, upward and out, from the inside of the lip.
-
5
Set a trailing hook on the bait fish. While mackerel are aggressive feeders they have a tendency to strike the bait short. Insert the second hook, attached to the 10-inch leader, through the back of the bait fish and under the spine just behind the dorsal fin. Do not put the second hook through the spinal column of the bait fish, or the bait will not swim naturally.
-
6
Tie a float to the fishing line, 6 feet above the bait. Cast the bait and allow the bait fish to drift and swim naturally.
